Getting started

Create your PocketCoach account, complete your training profile, connect services, and start your first AI coach conversation for a plan.

PocketCoach setup starts with account creation, profile intake, goals, training preferences, health and diet context, connections, and a first conversation in the Coach tab.

Create your account

Download PocketCoach and tap Sign Up on the welcome screen. Enter your email address and choose a password, then confirm you are 18 or over and complete the required data consent steps before your account is created. PocketCoach asks for explicit consent to health data and AI processing because coaching relies on training and wellbeing context, and you can review or withdraw that consent later in Settings.

Choose your sport and experience level

The setup wizard opens right after sign up. Pick your primary sport, such as running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, or gym and strength, along with your experience level. This tells your AI coach how to pace early plans and which terms to use, and you can change either one later in Settings > Profile if your focus shifts.

Set your goals

Tell your coach what you are working towards, for example completing a half marathon in October or building general strength over a training block. Your goals shape the plans your coach proposes, but they are a starting point rather than a fixed target: you can update or replace a goal in Settings > Profile whenever your priorities change.

Add your training setup

Set your preferred training times, how many days a week you can train, the equipment or facilities available to you, and any scheduling constraints such as work travel or family commitments. The more accurate this is, the more realistic the sessions your coach proposes will be for the week ahead.

Share health and diet context

Note any injuries, physical limitations, or dietary preferences before you finish setup. This context shapes suggestions inside the app; it is informational only, not medical advice, and PocketCoach is not a substitute for a qualified healthcare provider. If you have a health condition or injury, check with a professional before starting or changing any training programme.

Connect the accounts you want to use

You can connect Strava so completed activity summaries appear in the app, sync a device or cloud calendar so sessions land on your existing schedule, and turn on notifications for check-ins and session reminders. Every connection is optional at this stage: you can skip any of them during setup and add them later from Settings > Connections.

Start your first conversation

Open the Coach tab and send a message such as "Create a training plan for this week." Your AI coach reviews your profile and puts together a plan built around what you told it, and sessions then appear on the Today screen and in Calendar. Setup is not one-and-done: everything from your sport to your goals can be edited later in Settings > Profile, and your coach uses whatever is current the next time you ask for a plan.

Clear answers

Do I need to connect Strava to start?

No. Connecting Strava, a calendar, or Intervals.icu is optional during setup. You can begin with just your profile and start chatting with your AI coach, then add connections later in Settings > Connections.

Can I change my goals later?

Yes. Open Settings > Profile at any time to update your sport, experience level, goals, training setup, or health and diet details. Your coach uses whatever is current the next time you ask for a plan.

Is PocketCoach free to use?

PocketCoach offers a free tier of 20 messages per day with your AI coach. Adding your own API key in Settings > Coach removes the daily message limit.

Do I need to be a certain age to sign up?

Yes. PocketCoach is intended for users aged 18 and over, and age confirmation is part of account creation.
