Troubleshooting

Fix common PocketCoach issues with coach context, Strava sync, notifications, calendar events, and startup errors.

Most PocketCoach issues can be resolved by checking connection state, refreshing the relevant screen, starting a fresh coach conversation, or reconnecting the affected service.

My coach says it can't see my data

This usually happens in an older conversation where context has gone stale. Start a new conversation from the Coach tab; each new conversation reloads your current profile, sessions, and check-in data rather than relying on what was true earlier in an older thread.

I'm not getting notifications

First check Settings > Notifications and make sure the relevant toggles, such as check-in, session reminders, coach messages, and sync alerts, are switched on. Then check your device's own notification settings and confirm PocketCoach is allowed to send notifications; if you see a message that notifications are disabled at the device level, tap through to open your device settings and enable them there.

My Strava activities aren't showing

Open Settings > Connections and confirm Strava still shows as connected. If it is connected but an activity is missing, try a manual sync. If activities are still missing after that, disconnecting and reconnecting Strava resolves most sync issues, since it re-establishes the webhook subscription that keeps new activities flowing in.

I've hit my daily message limit

The free tier allows 20 messages per day with your AI coach. To remove that limit, go to Settings > Coach, add your own API key, and your conversations will use that key going forward with no daily cap. Usage against your own key is billed by your provider under their terms.

The app shows an error on startup

A brief error banner on a cold start can appear if your session token has expired. Signing in again clears this in almost all cases; if it persists, check that you have a working network connection, since PocketCoach needs one to authenticate.

Sessions aren't appearing on my calendar

Check Settings > Connections to make sure the relevant calendar connection, whether Apple, Google, or Outlook, is still active. For Apple Calendar specifically, confirm PocketCoach has calendar permission in your device settings, since that permission can be revoked outside the app. Then pull to refresh on the Today or Calendar screen.

My check-in didn't save

If you were offline when you submitted a check-in, it is queued locally and syncs automatically once you're back online. Look for the sync status indicator on the Today screen to confirm whether data is up to date or still waiting to sync.

The app looks different from what I expected

You may be in a different theme than you remember. Go to Settings > Appearance and switch between Dark, Light, or System to match your device.

Clear answers

Why does my coach say it can't see my data?

Context can go stale in an older conversation. Starting a new conversation from the Coach tab reloads your current profile, sessions, and check-in data.

Why am I not getting notifications?

Check that the relevant toggles are on in Settings > Notifications, and that PocketCoach has notification permission at the device level.

What happens to a check-in I submit while offline?

It's queued on your device and synced automatically once you're back online; the sync status indicator on the Today screen shows whether it's still pending.

What if none of these steps fix my issue?

Ask your AI coach directly in the Coach tab, since it can help with many app questions, or email support@pocketcoachhq.com and we will help you directly.
